Description
A woman and a small child sit together on a grassy hillside, both wearing broad straw hats, hers plain and his trimmed with red flowers. She leans forward with her hand near her chin, watching the child beside her, dressed in a pale blue blouse and a full white and pink skirt spread across the grass. A slender bare sapling rises at the right edge of the canvas, and beyond the pair the hillside opens into loosely painted trees and shrubs in yellow-green and rust tones, with a strip of pale blue sky visible in the upper right.
The whole scene is built from short, broken strokes of green, gold, and pink that dissolve the grass and foliage into shimmering light, a hallmark of Renoir’s outdoor figure paintings from this period, where the landscape and the sitters share the same soft, sunlit texture.
This work is offered as a hand-painted oil reproduction or as an archival canvas print, made to order in sizes that keep the proportions of the original 46.4 x 55.2 cm canvas, drawn from the version held by the Barnes Foundation.
