A personal painting for every kind of memory

Send a photograph and have it painted by hand in oil: one face, two people, a family, a dog, a house, a place that matters to you. Pick a faithful likeness or Renoir’s warm, loose colour. A written quote arrives before anything is paid.

Three steps, in this order

Send what you have

The form takes up to five files of up to 10 MB each, and a few lines on who or what is in them. A written brief alone is enough to start.

Read the quote

It gives sizes in the proportions of your photograph, the finishes and the prices. Nothing is owed until you accept it.

Check the result

After painting, photographs of the finished canvas reach you before dispatch, and corrections can be requested at that point.

Terms in a few lines

  • Finishes: rolled in a tube, stretched on a wooden frame, or framed.
  • From price, one subject on the smallest canvas, rolled: $218 (30 × 40 cm, rolled canvas).
  • Time at the easel: 2 to 4 weeks.
  • Free worldwide shipping with tracking. Carriers: UPS or DHL.
  • Once dispatched, allow 5 to 7 business days.
  • Return period: 30 days.

You can cancel your order at any time until it ships.

A second person or an animal in the picture counts as one more figure when the quote is made.

What Renoir’s own pictures teach

A couple dances in Dance at Bougival, dated 1883: she in pale pink, he in deep blue. Renoir wrote that he had first painted the man’s jacket white and then changed his mind and made it blue, and X-ray analysis found that the woman once wore a different hat. Even a finished-looking canvas was revised, and a commission follows the same logic: the colour is settled against the sitters’ faces, not before.

Friends crowd a restaurant terrace over the Seine at Chatou in Luncheon of the Boating Party, with a seamstress, Aline Charigot, holding a small dog at the lower left. She later became Renoir’s wife. In 1878 a publisher paid him for a group portrait of his own family, Madame Georges Charpentier and her Children, which hung at the Salon of 1879.

His colour is saturated and laid down in freely brushed touches, and with Monet he found that shadows pick up the colours near them. The Renoir direction borrows that. What you receive is a new commission painted in that manner. It is not an original Renoir and it is not a museum reproduction.

Eight subjects, eight pages

Asked before ordering

My photo has a person, a dog and a house. Where do I start?

Take the page of whatever should dominate the wall. The quote still follows everything in the picture.

Can the painting be a surprise?

Yes. Quote and approval photographs go to the person ordering, so the recipient sees the canvas on arrival.

Does the form commit me to buy?

No. It requests a quote, and the decision is yours once you have read it.

Two ways to commission your painting

Choose the result you want

This service is not limited to copying an artist style. You can request a faithful, neutral oil painting from your photograph, or a more expressive interpretation.

Faithful photo reproduction

The studio preserves the faces, setting, colours and proportions of your reference, without imitating a famous painter.

Pierre-Auguste Renoir-inspired interpretation

The same subject is reimagined with a more expressive palette, rhythm and brushwork. The studio confirms feasibility before production.

Custom painting questions

Can you paint my photo faithfully without copying a famous artist's style?

Yes. Choose the faithful, neutral direction and the studio will preserve the people, setting, colours and proportions of your reference while translating it into a hand-painted oil painting.

Can I request a more artistic interpretation?

Yes. Choose the creative direction and describe the mood, palette and brushwork you want. Your quote confirms what is feasible before any painting begins.

Can you combine several photographs in one painting?

Yes. Several reference photographs can be combined into one coherent composition. Mention who or what must appear, the preferred background and any details that must not be changed.

Will I see the painting before it ships?

Yes. When your painting is finished, we send you a photo of it before it ships. If anything needs adjusting, we correct it before the painting is dispatched.
