Description
Two young circus performers stand in the sandy ring, dressed in matching white costumes trimmed with gold fringe and yellow ribbon headbands, their high golden boots catching the light. One girl looks up mid-gesture, hands raised as if just finishing a trick, while the other faces us directly, cradling a bundle of oranges against her chest. Loose oranges are scattered on the ground around their feet, and behind them the blurred shapes of spectators lean over the barrier of the Cirque Fernando.
Painted in 1879 and now at the Art Institute of Chicago, the picture captures the Wartenberg sisters, Francisca and Angelina, in the ring between acts, Renoir favoring the soft glow of their skin and costumes over any sense of acrobatic strain.
This print carries over the warm, sandy tones of the ring floor and the sparkle of gold trim, produced as a museum-quality giclée on canvas or fine-art paper and available in multiple sizes, ready to hang.
