Your wedding photograph painted by hand in oil, with dress, flowers and faces kept true or warmed in Renoir’s colour. One frame can guide it all, or the best parts of several can be combined.
Choose the frame to paint
Not necessarily the one on the mantelpiece. Look for both faces in soft light, turned at least partly toward the camera, with the dress readable as a shape. Shade under trees or an overcast sky is ideal; hard sun leaves dark eyes and burnt-out white. Ask the photographer for the original file, not a copy saved from social media.
Name the real colours as well, since cameras miss them: an ivory dress can come out pure white and a navy suit black. Name any jewellery, cultural garment or memorial object that has to appear, and say whether guests in the background should stay.
Orientation matters too. Say whether you picture the couple upright and close, or small within the venue, because a church aisle, a garden arch or a seaside terrace each ask for a different format. A bouquet from another frame can be brought in when the main photograph hides it, and a stray guest or a signpost can be left out.
White in oil is a mix
A white dress is built from cream where light falls and grey in the folds. In the Renoir version it also picks up a touch of the flowers and skin around it. Around 1868 Renoir painted an engaged couple, now in the Wallraf-Richartz Museum in Cologne and sold here as Marriage of Sisley, also called A Couple (Les Fiancés). A letter of 1869 names his model Lise Tréhot as the woman, posed beside Alfred Sisley. For a couple in motion rather than posed, see Dance in the City.
Record or celebration
The faithful version stays close to the couple, the clothing and the colours the camera recorded. The Renoir version keeps the likeness, warms the skin tones and softens the contours. It is painted after his manner and is not an original Renoir.
Orientation and terms
A half-length couple suits a medium to large canvas. If the train of the dress matters, choose a taller photo and a taller canvas. Sizes keep the shape of your chosen photo, rolled, stretched on a wooden frame, or framed.
- A wedding portrait of two, smallest canvas, rolled, starts at $262 (30 × 40 cm, rolled canvas).
- Painting takes 2 to 4 weeks.
- Photographs of the finished painting arrive before dispatch.
- Shipping is free worldwide and tracked. Carriers: UPS or DHL.
- After dispatch, allow 5 to 7 business days.
Wedding questions
Does the photographer’s copyright matter?
A painting for your own wall from your wedding photographs is normal; if the photographer’s terms limit reproduction, check them before sending a file.
Is there time before our anniversary?
Count back from the date: painting time, a few days for approval, then delivery. Put the date in your request.
Our parents’ photo is black and white. Can it be in colour?
Yes. Share what you know of the colours, and see the grandparents portrait page for old prints. Every subject is on the custom Renoir painting page.
Can a wedding painting be returned?
Yes, after delivery. Return period: 30 days.
You can cancel your order at any time until it ships.
Choose the result you want
This service is not limited to copying an artist style. You can request a faithful, neutral oil painting from your photograph, or a more expressive interpretation.
The studio preserves the faces, setting, colours and proportions of your reference, without imitating a famous painter.
The same subject is reimagined with a more expressive palette, rhythm and brushwork. The studio confirms feasibility before production.
Custom painting questions
Can you paint my photo faithfully without copying a famous artist's style?
Yes. Choose the faithful, neutral direction and the studio will preserve the people, setting, colours and proportions of your reference while translating it into a hand-painted oil painting.
Can I request a more artistic interpretation?
Yes. Choose the creative direction and describe the mood, palette and brushwork you want. Your quote confirms what is feasible before any painting begins.
Can you combine several photographs in one painting?
Yes. Several reference photographs can be combined into one coherent composition. Mention who or what must appear, the preferred background and any details that must not be changed.
Will I see the painting before it ships?
Yes. When your painting is finished, we send you a photo of it before it ships. If anything needs adjusting, we correct it before the painting is dispatched.
