Description
Seen through a screen of autumn-toned trees and rocky scrub, a cluster of stone buildings clings to a hillside: a conical roof, a red-tiled house, and what looks like the remains of a tower or gatehouse rising on the right. Rolling wooded hills recede into a pale, overcast distance.
Renoir builds the foliage from short, choppy strokes in dark green, rust and gold, contrasting with the smoother grey and cream masonry of the buildings. The sky is brushed in soft diagonal streaks of lavender and pink, suggesting shifting, changeable weather over the coast.
Roche-Goyon is offered as a hand-painted oil reproduction on canvas or as an archival giclee canvas print. No museum location was recorded for this work; the reproduction is based on the surviving image of the original painting.
