Description
“Femme âgée arabe”, painted in 1882, is a loosely sketched portrait study of a woman with reddish hair falling around her face, wrapped in a pale, cream-colored garment. The brushwork is quick and unfinished in feel, with the features built up in warm reds and browns against a cool blue background.
The sketch-like handling gives the study an immediacy that Renoir’s more finished portraits do not always show, with large passages of bare-seeming canvas left visible around the head and shoulders.
This study is available as a hand-painted oil reproduction on artist-grade canvas or as an archival giclee canvas print, made to order in the size of your choice, available framed or unframed, and shipped worldwide.
