Description
A tall, leafless tree with a tangle of rust colored branches dominates the foreground of this view of Essoyes, its bare limbs cutting across a bright blue sky streaked with quick, loose brushstrokes. Through the branches rises the pale stone tower of the village church, framed by a cluster of steep, orange tiled roofs and a screen of russet colored shrubs and hedges.
A single small figure walks along a path in the middle distance, giving scale to the quiet rural scene, while foreground grasses in green, gold, and blue are laid in with short, energetic dabs of paint typical of Renoir’s late landscape work in Burgundy.
This is offered as a faithful reproduction, not the original: a hand-painted oil version on canvas, recreated brushstroke by brushstroke by a professional painter, or an archival canvas print made with fade-resistant pigment inks, available in a range of sizes to suit any wall.
