Description
Two large, softly rounded nude women recline together on a white cloth spread over the grass, one resting on her elbow gazing dreamily into the distance, the other lying back with her arm curled behind her head. Their warm, sun-touched skin dominates the canvas, set against a tangle of green foliage and, further back, more bathers wading at the water’s edge.
Painted in 1918, near the end of Renoir’s life, the picture is built from loose, glowing strokes of peach, rose, and ochre, the figures rendered with a soft, almost sculptural fullness. A straw hat trimmed with flowers rests in the grass beside them, a small still-life touch amid the riverside idyll.
This late, richly textured palette prints exceptionally well on canvas, where the warm flesh tones and dappled greens keep their glow. Available in multiple sizes, from a modest print to a large canvas that fills a wall the way the original fills a room.
