Description

A pale, chalky rock face rises on the left, its white and cream stone catching bright Mediterranean light, while dense green trees and shrubs crowd the slope below. A single slender tree stands at the centre of the composition, its dark trunk cutting through the mass of foliage.

Renoir works the vegetation in dabbed, overlapping strokes of green, yellow-green and olive, and lets the rock catch warmer touches of pink and ochre in the sunlight. Broad diagonal strokes of pale blue and white describe a bright, hazy sky above the hillside.

Rochers de l’Estaque is offered as a hand-painted oil reproduction on canvas or as an archival giclee canvas print. No museum or dimensions were recorded for this painting; the reproduction is based on the surviving image alone.

The craft

The oil edition of this Renoir artwork is painted by hand on canvas. A canvas art print reproduces the image in ink, with the brushmarks visible in the picture rather than raised paint.

  • Oil editions painted individually by studio artists
  • Canvas prints reproduce the image on canvas
  • Individually quality-inspected before it leaves the studio
  • Made to order in your chosen size and presentation

Materials & Care

Materials

The oil reproduction is painted on cotton canvas; the art print is printed on canvas. Rolled canvas arrives without a stretcher. Stretched canvas is mounted on a wooden stretcher frame; thin and thick frames are separate presentation choices.

On request, the studio provides a certificate for your hand-painted reproduction; it certifies the studio's work, not an original by the artist.

Care

Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid cleaning products, prolonged direct sunlight and damp conditions.

Sizing

Choose a size and presentation in the options above. Both editions keep the original image proportions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What canvas sizes are offered for this landscape?

No dimensions survive for the original Rochers de l'Estaque, so we produce this reproduction in our standard canvas sizes. If you need a specific fit for your wall, custom sizing is available on request.

Is this painting hand-painted or a canvas print?

We offer both: a hand-painted oil reproduction on canvas, worked in real paint, or an archival giclee print on canvas. Either way, this is a modern reproduction, not the nineteenth-century original.

What should I expect for shipping?

Orders are made to order and shipped worldwide, arriving ready to hang. A hand-painted oil reproduction takes longer to produce than a canvas print, since each one is painted individually by an artist.
