Description
A pale sandy road lined with tall, feathery trees leads the eye toward a distant village, its church bell tower and clustered red roofed houses catching the soft light of early morning under a hazy blue sky. In the foreground two figures walk close together arm in arm along the road, while further off a small group of other walkers can be made out heading toward the village.
The greens of the roadside trees and grassy banks are cool and fresh, still holding the blue tinge of dawn, giving the whole scene the quiet, unhurried feeling of a countryside morning near Essoyes, the village in Champagne where Renoir’s wife’s family lived.
The original is held by the Pola Museum of Art. What is offered here is a faithful reproduction, either a hand-painted oil version on canvas, recreated stroke by stroke by a professional painter, or an archival canvas print made with fade-resistant pigment inks, available in a range of sizes.
