Description
A wide, luminous sky filled with drifting grey and gold clouds takes up most of this canvas, pressing down on a gently rolling countryside of ripening fields, hedgerows, and distant wooded hills near Essoyes. A pale dirt track curves through the tall grass and grain, edged with poppies and wildflowers in touches of red and orange.
Where the track bends, two small figures in dark clothing pause together, tiny against the scale of the sky and fields around them, giving the whole scene a quiet, everyday sense of two people out walking under a changeable summer sky.
The original is part of the collection of Kunstmuseum Basel.
