Description
Head (Tete), also called Etude de brodeuse, is a close-up portrait of a young woman with auburn hair pulled loosely back, her head tilted down as she looks toward her lap, as if absorbed in needlework. Soft light falls across her forehead and cheek, catching a faint blush on her skin, while the rest of her face sits in gentle shadow.
She wears a white blouse with a high collar and vertical pin-tucked pleats, rendered in loose strokes of white, cream, and pale blue that read as fabric folds rather than fine detail. Behind her, the background is built from broad vertical brushstrokes in olive green and ochre, giving the whole canvas a warm, informal, study-like feel.
Painted in 1904 and held at the Barnes Foundation, the original measures 38.1 by 32.4 centimetres. We reproduce it as a hand-painted oil on canvas or as an archival print, available in a range of sizes to suit anything from a small reading nook to a larger gallery wall.
