Description
A small child is shown in profile, chin lifted and lips slightly parted as if speaking, with a rounded, rosy-cheeked face and wide-set eyes gazing off to the right. Reddish-brown hair falls in a soft, blunt-cut bob to the shoulders, and the child wears a simple blue smock with a white collar, painted in broad, fluid strokes. The background is kept plain, a warm ivory tone brushed with faint hints of green and blue, so that attention stays entirely on the round, softly modeled face.
Painted around 1906 and held at the Kunstmuseum Basel, this intimate head study reflects Renoir’s enduring interest in children’s portraits during the early years of the twentieth century.
This reproduction of Tête d’enfant is available as a hand-painted oil copy on canvas or as an archival giclee print, made to order in a range of sizes close to the original 30 x 25 cm format or scaled up, and delivered ready to hang.
