Description
Girls Picking Flowers in a Meadow shows two young women kneeling together in a grassy field beside a slender flowering tree. One, in a white dress dotted with small blue accents and a wide straw hat trimmed with yellow and blue bows, holds a growing bunch of white and yellow blossoms in her lap. The other, in a pink dress patterned with small white dots and a matching bonnet, reaches up with one arm to pull down a flowering branch above them.
Renoir surrounds the two figures with a field of loosely brushed greens, blending grass, distant shrubs and a pale sky into soft patches of colour. The flowering branches at the upper left echo the pink and white of the women’s clothing, tying the whole composition together in a single warm, springtime palette.
Painted around 1890 and held at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the canvas measures 65.1 by 81 centimetres. We reproduce it as a hand-painted oil on canvas or as an archival print, offered in a range of sizes to suit a variety of walls.
