Description
Girl with a Basket of Fish shows a young woman in profile, walking barefoot along a beach with her hair pulled back in a loose knot. Her white blouse slips off one shoulder, and she carries a large woven basket heaped with fish tucked against her hip, steadying it with both hands. Below the blouse, a full orange-red skirt swings loose around her bare legs.
The tall, narrow canvas frames her full length against a hazy beach and sea, painted in soft blues, tans and touches of white for the surf. Renoir keeps the background loose and simplified, letting the bright red of the skirt and the warm tones of the basket and fish carry the picture’s colour against the pale sand and sky.
Painted in 1875 and held at the National Gallery of Art, the canvas measures 130.7 by 41.8 centimetres. We reproduce it as a hand-painted oil on canvas or as an archival print, offered in a range of sizes to suit a narrow hallway or a larger wall.
