Description

A dense cluster of roses fills the canvas edge to edge: full-blown pink and salmon blooms mix with pale cream-white roses and soft yellow-green foliage, all set against a warm, glowing pink-red ground. No vase or table is visible, only the flowers themselves, pressed close together.

Renoir builds each bloom from thick, swirling strokes of paint, the petals barely distinguishable from one another at the centre of the bouquet, so the whole surface reads as a single warm mass of colour. It is a late, freely handled still life, painted with visible pleasure in the paint itself.

This Roses still life is reproduced as a hand-painted oil on canvas or as an archival giclee canvas print, after the original held at the Musee des Beaux-Arts et d’Archeologie de Besancon, measuring 27 x 30 cm. It is a reproduction.

The craft

The oil edition of this Renoir artwork is painted by hand on canvas. A canvas art print reproduces the image in ink, with the brushmarks visible in the picture rather than raised paint.

  • Oil editions painted individually by studio artists
  • Canvas prints reproduce the image on canvas
  • Individually quality-inspected before it leaves the studio
  • Made to order in your chosen size and presentation

Materials & Care

Materials

The oil reproduction is painted on cotton canvas; the art print is printed on canvas. Rolled canvas arrives without a stretcher. Stretched canvas is mounted on a wooden stretcher frame; thin and thick frames are separate presentation choices.

On request, the studio provides a certificate for your hand-painted reproduction; it certifies the studio's work, not an original by the artist.

Care

Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid cleaning products, prolonged direct sunlight and damp conditions.

Sizing

Choose a size and presentation in the options above. Both editions keep the original image proportions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What sizes can I order this floral still life in?

The original, at the Musee des Beaux-Arts et d'Archeologie de Besancon, measures 27 x 30 cm. We reproduce it in a range of larger standard canvas sizes, and custom sizing can be arranged if you need a specific fit.

Do you sell this as a hand-painted oil or only as a print?

Both options are available: a hand-painted oil reproduction on canvas, built up in real brushwork, or an archival giclee print on canvas. Neither is the original painting held in Besancon.

How long before my order ships?

Every reproduction is made to order and shipped worldwide, arriving stretched and ready to hang. Hand-painted oil versions take longer to produce than canvas prints, since each is painted individually by an artist.
