Description
A small, sketch-like seascape: sun-baked ochre and orange rocks fill the foreground, pooled with a few patches of shadowed blue, while a deep ultramarine sea stretches to a pale, hazy headland on the horizon. A second, paler rocky point closes the bay at upper left.
Renoir works quickly here, in loaded, visible strokes: warm yellows and oranges for the sunlit stone, cool blue-green for the water, and soft violet-grey for the distant coast. The contrast between the hot rocks and the cool sea gives this small panel real intensity of light.
Rochers jaunes avec mer bleue is available as a hand-painted oil reproduction on canvas or as an archival giclee canvas print, after the original, which measures 22 x 33 cm and is held at the Landesmuseum Hannover. This is a reproduction.
