Description
Tall, dark-trunked trees rise on both sides of a pale sandy path cutting through dense woodland, their canopies merging into deep, shadowy green overhead. On the path at the right, a woman in a dark dress and hat walks with two small children, one dressed in dark clothes and one in white, small bright accents against the heavy green surroundings.
Renoir paints the wood in broad, dark strokes of green and blue-black, leaving the path and the small figures as the lightest, most legible passage in the canvas, the forest closing in thick and cool around them.
This painting is available as a hand-painted oil reproduction or an archival canvas print, made to order in sizes that keep the original’s proportions, close to a 41 x 32.5 cm ratio, so the composition reads as Renoir intended.
