Description
Two young nude women stand pressed close together on a tall, narrow canvas, both with their arms raised above their heads in a mirrored, column-like pose. One has dark hair swept up and glances back over her shoulder, the other has lighter, reddish hair and looks down; a strip of green drapery is held between them at hip height, and both stand barefoot against a soft, decorative green background with a hint of a garland motif near the top edge.
The elongated panel format and the paired, upright figures recall a caryatid, a carved female figure used to support architecture, and the soft, blended handling of the flesh gives the pair a smooth, almost sculptural finish rather than Renoir’s usual loose brushwork.
This painting, held at the Munich Central Collecting Point, is offered as a hand-painted oil reproduction or an archival canvas print, made to order in sizes that respect the tall, narrow 130 x 41 cm proportions of the original.
