Description
Two women sit close together almost buried in a thicket of flowering shrubs, their forms rendered as loose patches of color amid dense greens, yellows, and touches of lavender. The woman at left wears a wide straw hat and a bright orange-red dress, her head tilted down; beside her a second woman in a yellow-gold hat and top leans in, her back partly turned to the viewer. Behind them the foliage opens briefly to a pale strip of hazy pink sky and distant blue hills, the only hint of open space in an otherwise thickly painted garden.
Painted in 1918 and held at the Barnes Foundation, this small canvas shows Renoir working in his late, warm-toned manner, dissolving the two figures almost entirely into the surrounding vegetation.
This reproduction of Two Women in a Landscape (Deux femmes dans un paysage) is available as a hand-painted oil copy on canvas or as an archival giclee print, made to order in a range of sizes close to the original 24.5 x 30.5 cm format or scaled up, and delivered ready to hang.
