Description
Two young girls sit close together outdoors on wooden chairs. One is seen from behind, her wide straw hat trimmed with red flowers and white lace, wearing a striped pink and cream dress with a bracelet visible on her raised wrist. The other faces forward, wearing a dark hat with a blue-black plume and a rust-orange bodice with a black sleeve.
Behind them stretches an open green meadow beneath a pale sky, painted with the same loose, feathery strokes Renoir used for the girls’ hats and dresses. The composition feels caught in passing, as if the two had simply turned to talk in the middle of an afternoon outdoors.
Two Girls, painted in 1892 and held by the Philadelphia Museum of Art, is offered as a hand-painted oil reproduction on canvas or as an archival giclee canvas print, made to order in a range of sizes and ready to hang.
