Description
A hazy, luminous seascape dissolves into pale gold, lavender, and cream tones, with barely a firm line separating water from sky. A low band of distant hills runs across the horizon, its shoreline touched with a streak of warm red and orange as if catching the last light of the day. A tiny sailboat drifts near the middle of the bay, almost swallowed by the misty atmosphere, while the foreground water is rendered in loose, sweeping strokes of white and soft violet.
Painted in 1882 and held at the Columbus Museum of Art, this small, atmospheric view favors mood and light over detail, reducing the bay to a few essential passages of color.
This reproduction of The Bay of Naples is available as a hand-painted oil copy on canvas or as an archival giclee print, made to order in a range of sizes close to the original 29 x 39 cm format or scaled up, and delivered ready to hang.
