Description

A broad stretch of golden sand fills the foreground of this small coastal view, giving way to a bay of vivid turquoise and deep blue water dotted with the pale sails of small boats. Low hills rise along the far shore under a soft, hazy sky, and on the headland to the right a pale tower catches the light among patches of green scrub.

Two tiny figures stand at the water’s edge, barely more than a few strokes of color, emphasizing how much of the canvas Renoir gives over to sand, sea, and sky.
