Description
Painted in 1897, this small landscape shows the steep, golden-brown thatched roof of a cottage rising at the left, framed by tall, slender trees whose trunks stripe the right side of the canvas in browns and blues. A dirt path winds back between the trees, where two small figures, one in a red skirt, walk together beneath a canopy of dappled green leaves. Renoir renders the sky above in soft, hazy pinks and pale blue, its loose, feathery brushwork echoed throughout the foliage. The painting is held at the Museum of Dieppe, near the Normandy coast where Berneval lies.
As a museum-quality wall-art print, made to order on canvas or fine-art paper, its dappled greens and golden thatch tones settle easily into a hallway or a quiet reading nook.
