Description
At the center of this study, a fair-haired child nestles close against a dark-haired young woman in a red top, their faces nearly touching in a tender, affectionate pose. To the upper right, Renoir adds a separate sketch of another girl’s head wrapped in a blue and white bonnet or scarf, while a small green passage in the lower left and a sleeping child’s head in the lower right round out the sheet as further studies of the same models.
The warm reds, soft flesh tones, and touches of green and blue give the composition an intimate, domestic warmth typical of Renoir’s studies of mothers and children. As no museum or date is recorded for this particular sheet, it stands as an undated glimpse into the artist’s working method of gathering related figures on a single canvas.
Our reproduction of Study of children and young woman is available as a hand-painted oil copy on canvas or as an archival giclee print, made to order in a range of sizes and delivered ready to hang.
