Description
A ribbed cantaloupe melon, its skin striped in cool green and golden yellow, anchors this loose kitchen still life. Around it Renoir scatters blush-pink peaches, pale apples and a pair of onions still trailing their papery skins, all set on a crumpled white cloth. Behind the fruit, a warm wash of ochre and rust suggests a wall or curtain, giving the whole arrangement a glowing, late-afternoon warmth.
Painted in 1905 and now part of the Barnes Foundation collection, Still Life with Melon (Nature morte au melon) is available as a hand-painted oil reproduction on canvas or as an archival giclee canvas print, made to order in a range of sizes and ready to hang.
