Description

Undated, this compact still life gathers ripe apples and pale green almonds in a loose pile on a plain tabletop, a few dark green leaves showing beneath the fruit. Renoir builds the apples’ skins from warm strokes of red, orange and yellow, set against the paler, rounded forms of the almonds and a warm ochre-brown background. The elongated, horizontal canvas keeps the arrangement compact and close to the picture plane, typical of Renoir’s small still lifes. The painting is recorded at the Munich Central Collecting Point.
