Description

Sleeping Nude with Raised Arm, drawn by Pierre-Auguste Renoir in 1885, is a delicate study worked in pale colored pencil or pastel, showing a reclining figure with one arm raised behind her head. The forms are built from the thinnest washes of color, with only the hair and a few contour lines drawn firmly.

Soft yellow and pale blue tones wash across the paper, giving the drawing an airy, almost dissolved quality quite different from Renoir’s oil paintings of the same subject.
