Description
A loose mass of roses fills nearly the whole canvas, spilling outward with no vase in sight, as though caught growing against a soft, hazy blue grey sky. White and blush pink blooms cluster at the center while deeper crimson red roses gather along the lower edge, with slender buds and stems trailing off to the right.
Renoir works the petals with swirling, energetic strokes of white, pink and blue, letting the background bleed into the flowers themselves so the whole surface feels windblown and alive rather than posed. The brushwork here is looser and more gestural than in his vase compositions, closer to a garden impression than a formal still life.
Painted in 1885 at Wargemont, this piece is offered as a hand painted oil reproduction on canvas or as an archival giclee canvas print, a faithful copy for your own walls rather than the original work.
