Description
A tall blue and white patterned vase holds an overflowing bouquet of roses and peonies, their pink and crimson heads piled together with sprigs of green foliage reaching upward. The flowers are set against a warm gold interior and a swag of deep red drapery, with a pale cloth bunched beside the vase on the table below.
Renoir paints the blossoms with loose, confident strokes, the reds and pinks built up wet into wet so the petals seem to glow from within, while the vase is rendered with quicker, more linear touches of blue over white. The red drapery gives the whole composition a rich, theatrical warmth.
Painted in 1876 and now held at the Dallas Museum of Art, this work is offered as a hand painted oil reproduction on canvas or as an archival giclee canvas print, a reproduction made for your walls rather than a substitute for the museum original.
