Description
Seen from behind, a woman with dark hair pinned up bends over a rumpled bed, gathering a pink garment in both hands as if just rising or about to dress. A white sheet trails from her hip down to the floor, and she wears small blue slippers, the only touch of cool colour against her warm, pale skin.
Renoir sets the scene in a cosy bedroom, the bedding a soft tangle of white folds and the wall behind papered in gold with scattered blue flowers. The whole painting is built from warm, creamy flesh tones and soft whites, with the pink fabric she holds forming the brightest accent in an otherwise gentle, domestic palette.
This piece is available as a hand-painted oil reproduction on canvas or as an archival giclée canvas print. Both are reproductions of the original painting held at the Barnes Foundation, not the original artwork.
