Description

A young girl sits with her very long dark brown hair drawn forward over one shoulder and held loosely in her lap, a pale blue bow perched in her hair above wide, direct blue eyes. Her off the shoulder gown is a soft sky blue, gathered with matching bows at the sleeves.

Renoir sets her against a warm coral pink background, the contrast between the cool blue costume and the rosy ground giving the whole picture a gentle glow. The brushwork on the hair is especially fluid, long sweeping strokes that let waves of colour, from deep brown to touches of auburn, run the length of the canvas.
