Description

She is shown half length against a deep red brown ground, and she is looking straight at you. She wears a black dress flecked with white, wide lapelled over a pale blue white chemisette, and a black hat trimmed with a plume of orange red and pale pink feathers that spills across the top of the canvas.

Drop earrings, a small gold star brooch at the throat and a second gold ornament below it are the only bright points on the figure. Her hair is dark with a fringe, her eyes are dark brown, and there is the faintest smile.

Renoir signed and dated at the upper left, in blue: Renoir. 80. The picture is built on three things only, the red ground, the black of the dress and hat, and the feathers, and the feathers are where all the painting energy went.

The craft

The oil edition of this Renoir artwork is painted by hand on canvas. A canvas art print reproduces the image in ink, with the brushmarks visible in the picture rather than raised paint.

  • Oil editions painted individually by studio artists
  • Canvas prints reproduce the image on canvas
  • Individually quality-inspected before it leaves the studio
  • Made to order in your chosen size and presentation

Materials & Care

Materials

The oil reproduction is painted on cotton canvas; the art print is printed on canvas. Rolled canvas arrives without a stretcher. Stretched canvas is mounted on a wooden stretcher frame; thin and thick frames are separate presentation choices.

On request, the studio provides a certificate for your hand-painted reproduction; it certifies the studio's work, not an original by the artist.

Care

Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid cleaning products, prolonged direct sunlight and damp conditions.

Sizing

Frequently Asked Questions

Which sizes are available?

Those listed with the options on this page. You choose the short edge, from 30 up to 150 centimetres; the other edge is derived from the proportions of this painting itself, so the picture is never trimmed to fit. Each option is listed in centimetres and inches. Our catalogue holds no recorded measurements for the original, so the eight standard sizes are all that is offered, without an original-size option.

Which medium can I choose?

Either of two reproductions. The default is a hand-painted oil reproduction, painted in oils on canvas. The alternative is a canvas art print. The hand-painted option carries the thick, loaded strokes of the plumes and the dress. You then choose the finish: rolled, stretched on a chassis, or set in a thin or a thick frame.

How is it delivered?

It is made for your order in the size, medium and finish you choose. The production time for the medium you pick is shown with the options on this page, and shipping is calculated at checkout for your delivery address.
