Description
Renoir presents a young woman in half length, her dark hair swept up with a loose fringe over pale, rosy-cheeked features. Wrapped in a soft mauve coat with a high collar gathered into a twisted scarf at the throat, she turns her head slightly away, her blue eyes drifting past the viewer rather than meeting our gaze.
The setting stays deliberately unresolved: warm ochre strokes break into a glimpse of dark green foliage and a swatch of rose-pink fabric at the left edge, so that the finish is reserved for her face and the fall of light across her shoulders. The coat is built from quick ribbons of lavender and grey, the skin from small warm touches of pink and cream.
This piece is offered as a hand-painted oil reproduction on canvas or as an archival giclee canvas print, a new reproduction made after the original, which is held at the Barnes Foundation and not the painting itself.
