Description
Seen from the side, a young girl bends over a sheet of paper or a small book held up in both hands, her head bowed in concentration as she reads. Her dark hair is gathered up with a bright red-orange bow, and she wears a loose white dress that catches the light in broad, chalky strokes across her back and shoulders.
This is a small, intimate study, painted quickly with visible, sketch-like brushwork; the pale grey-lavender background is barely more than a few broad sweeps of the brush, leaving the whole focus on the warm skin tones of her arms and the flash of red in her hair. The reading material itself is suggested only loosely, a pale shape rather than a legible object.
Held at the MuMa Museum of modern art André Malraux, this small painting is reproduced here as a hand-painted oil reproduction on canvas, or as an archival giclee canvas print made from a high-resolution image. Both are reproductions for your wall, not the original work.
