Description
A young woman with loose, russet-red hair sits half-turned toward us, one arm resting along the back of her chair. A pale, loosely draped cloth slips from her shoulders and gathers at her waist, leaving her torso bare in the manner of Renoir’s late studio studies, painted in soft, glowing flesh tones with barely any hard outline.
Renoir builds her skin from warm rose, cream, and ochre strokes that blend into one another almost like watercolour, while her red hair is worked in thicker, more textured touches of copper and brown. The background is left loose and undefined, soft strokes of sage green and pale grey that keep all the attention on the figure and the fall of white drapery across her.
Held at the Musée Picasso, this study is reproduced here as a hand-painted oil reproduction on canvas, made by hand to capture its soft, glowing colour, or as an archival giclee canvas print from a high-resolution image. Both are reproductions for your home, not the original painting.
