Description
A young woman is drawn seated in profile, seen from behind and to one side, her head tipped forward and her hands clasped together in front of her. The figure is worked in warm sanguine chalk against a tan paper ground, with soft white highlights picking out her back and shoulders.
Identified as a study for The Great Bathers, one of Renoir’s most ambitious late compositions, the drawing focuses entirely on the turn of the spine and the weight of the seated pose, a working study rather than a finished portrait.
Reproduced as a hand-painted oil on canvas or as an archival canvas print, translating the drawing into a finished wall piece, in a range of sizes, framed or unframed.
