Description

A large pear stands at the left, yellow shading to red down one side, its stalk upright. Behind it sits a dark crimson apple; a big yellow apple takes the centre; two red apples follow to the right, and at the far right two yellow green ones, one with a red blush across it.

They lie on a white cloth thrown over a yellow ochre table, and the cloth falls into heavy folds with grey and black in the shadows. The wall behind is mottled slate blue, brushed in every direction. Renoir signed at the lower right.

This is a firmer, more sculptural Renoir than the figure paintings suggest. Each fruit is given real weight and a definite edge, and the blue wall is there to push the yellows and reds forward. Dated 1890.

The craft

The oil edition of this Renoir artwork is painted by hand on canvas. A canvas art print reproduces the image in ink, with the brushmarks visible in the picture rather than raised paint.

  • Oil editions painted individually by studio artists
  • Canvas prints reproduce the image on canvas
  • Individually quality-inspected before it leaves the studio
  • Made to order in your chosen size and presentation

Materials & Care

Materials

The oil reproduction is painted on cotton canvas; the art print is printed on canvas. Rolled canvas arrives without a stretcher. Stretched canvas is mounted on a wooden stretcher frame; thin and thick frames are separate presentation choices.

On request, the studio provides a certificate for your hand-painted reproduction; it certifies the studio's work, not an original by the artist.

Care

Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid cleaning products, prolonged direct sunlight and damp conditions.

Sizing

Frequently Asked Questions

What size will I receive?

The size you select from the options on this page. Sizes are set by the short edge, from 30 up to 150 centimetres, and the long edge follows this painting's own proportions, so nothing is cropped or stretched. Every option is shown in centimetres and inches. Our catalogue holds no recorded measurements for the original, so those eight standard sizes are the whole choice here, and no original-size option is offered.

How is the reproduction made?

In one of two media, both reproductions of this still life. The default is a hand-painted oil reproduction, painted in oils on canvas. The alternative is a canvas art print. The forms here are firmly modelled with definite edges, which the hand-painted option follows stroke for stroke. You then choose the finish: rolled, stretched on a chassis, or set in a thin or a thick frame.

When will it be dispatched?

After it is made for your order in the size, medium and finish you choose. The production time for the medium you pick is shown with the options on this page, and shipping is calculated at checkout for your delivery address.
