Description
A blue and white porcelain cup sits on its matching saucer at the left, with a second small blue and white dish tucked behind it. To the right of the china lies a large pale yellow green banana, and beyond it a group of oranges, several still attached to a leafy twig that trails forward across the cloth.
Everything rests on a white cloth laid over a table, against a russet brown wall. The porcelain is the one thing Renoir draws: the blue pattern on the cup is legible, the handle is precise, while the fruit is modelled purely in turning colour with no contour at all.
He signed at the upper left. The canvas is 23.5 by 35.5 centimetres and belongs to the Barnes Foundation.
