Description

Nude in an Armchair, painted by Pierre-Auguste Renoir in 1900, shows a woman seen from behind, her dark hair gathered in an updo, leaning one arm across the plush back of a red velvet armchair. White drapery is bunched at her side and across the chair.

The warm olive tones of the background frame the figure and the deep red of the chair, giving the composition a rich, enclosed, interior warmth. The original, measuring 55.5 by 46.5 cm, is held at the Kunsthaus Zürich.
