Description
Pierre-Auguste Renoir sketches a young girl reclining on her side, propped on one elbow with her head resting in her hand as she gazes out at the viewer. Her curled figure rests on a swath of glowing red drapery amid a golden, sun-warmed outdoor setting flecked with dark green foliage. The loose, painterly strokes and warm palette give the whole scene a hazy, sun-drenched glow. Painted in 1885 at 32 by 40 centimeters, the work is held at the Ashmolean Museum.
