Description
Renoir paints a close, sunlit corner of a garden or hillside path, with no village or wide sky visible beyond a narrow pale strip at the top edge of the canvas. Dense shrubs and low trees in warm golds, reds and greens crowd the composition, and a scatter of small orange blossoms lights up the lower left corner where a bare earth path curves through the growth.
The tight, informal framing and thick, overlapping strokes suggest this is one of the small garden studies Renoir made close to home in his later years, painted quickly to catch the play of sun through foliage rather than any wider view.
The original is held by the Barnes Foundation. What is offered here is a faithful reproduction: a hand-painted oil version on canvas, recreated stroke by stroke by a professional painter, or an archival canvas print made with fade-resistant pigment inks, available in a range of sizes.
