Description
A cream walled farmhouse with a red tiled roof stands at the center of this small landscape, half hidden behind trees and set against a pale blue mountain in the distance. A smaller white house with a red roof sits lower down at the left, and a slender tree with rosy blossom rises just in front of the main building.
The foreground is filled with loosely brushed green shrubs and grass in blue green and gold, giving way to the softer, hazier tones of the hillside and mountain behind. The warm light and the pale mountain silhouette suggest the countryside of the south of France, where Renoir spent his later years.
The painting is part of the collection of the Barnes Foundation. What is offered here is not that original but a faithful reproduction: a hand-painted oil version on canvas, recreated stroke by stroke by a professional painter, or an archival canvas print made with fade-resistant pigment inks, available in a range of sizes.
