Description
Painted from a high viewpoint, this small square landscape looks out over an undulating valley bathed in warm, hazy light. A soft rose pink sky meets pale violet blue hills on the horizon, while the middle distance dissolves into loose strokes of rust, ochre, and dusty green.
In the foreground a dark rocky shape and a slender bare tree anchor the composition at the lower left, with low scrub and grass rendered in quick touches of green and gold. The atmosphere is thick and glowing rather than sharply detailed, closer to a memory of a view than a topographical record.
The painting is part of the collection of the Barnes Foundation. What is offered here is not that original but a faithful reproduction: a hand-painted oil version on canvas, recreated stroke by stroke by a professional painter, or an archival canvas print made with fade-resistant pigment inks, sized to match the original small study or scaled up for a larger wall.
