Description
Jacques-Eugene Spuller is a head-and-shoulders portrait of a bearded man looking out at the viewer with pale blue eyes. His reddish-blond hair is brushed back from a high forehead, and a full beard and moustache of the same colour cover his jaw. He wears a dark suit jacket with a white shirt collar showing at the throat.
Renoir paints the face with careful, blended strokes that model the light falling across the forehead and cheeks, while the mottled green background is worked more loosely, in short overlapping touches of yellow-green and blue-green. The dark jacket anchors the lighter palette of the face and background.
We reproduce this painting as a hand-painted oil on canvas or as an archival print, available in a range of sizes so the portrait can suit a study, an office, or a larger wall.
