Description
Head of a Girl shows a young woman in strict profile, her dark hair swept up into a coiled bun with a loose braid falling at the back of her neck. Her face is turned to the right, with a calm, composed expression, soft pink colouring on her cheek, and light catching the bridge of her nose and lips.
She wears a striped grey and black high-collared dress, with what appears to be a dark beaded choker at her throat. Renoir sets her figure against a loosely brushed background of mustard yellow and olive green, with a few pale blue strokes suggesting a flower or plant to the right of her face.
Painted in 1898 and held at the National Gallery, the original measures 20 by 27 centimetres. We reproduce it as a hand-painted oil on canvas or as an archival print, available in a range of sizes to suit any wall.
