Description

A woman with dark hair swept into a high bun looks downward, one hand raised to rest lightly at the back of her neck. Her sheer white blouse is loosely painted with soft grey shadows, cinched at the waist by a wide gold and peach sash.

She sits against a bold, unbroken field of red-orange, its warm glow reflecting onto her skin and giving the whole portrait an intimate, sunlit warmth. Renoir’s brushwork is loose and confident throughout, from the soft folds of her sleeve to her loosely gathered hair.
