Description
Girl with a Jump Rope shows a young girl standing full-length and facing the viewer directly, her long auburn hair held back with a blue ribbon bow. She wears a full blue dress with puffed white sleeves and a white collar, a coral necklace, and dark blue button boots. In both hands she holds the wooden handles of a jump rope, its orange and yellow cord trailing down to the ground between her feet.
Renoir sets the girl against a dark, loosely brushed green background that reads almost like foliage, throwing her pale face and the bright blue of her dress into sharp relief. The paint on the skirt is built up in broad, sweeping strokes of blue and green that catch the light differently across the folds of the fabric.
Painted in 1876 and held at the Barnes Foundation, the canvas measures 107.3 by 71 centimetres. We reproduce it as a hand-painted oil on canvas or as an archival print, offered in a range of sizes to suit a hallway or a larger feature wall.
