Description
Gabrielle lisant shows the model absorbed in a small book, seated in a large upholstered armchair. Her hair, a warmer reddish brown here, is gathered up with a pale ribbon or band, and she looks down at the open pages held in both hands. She wears a dress striped in red, pink, and white, with a soft ruffled collar at the neck.
The armchair is painted in the same warm red as her dress, its arms and back built up with thick, loose strokes, while a green curtain falls at the right edge of the canvas and a patterned wallpaper, dotted with round green motifs, fills the background. The whole scene reads as a quiet, private moment of reading.
Painted in 1910, the original canvas measures 32 by 24 centimetres. We reproduce it as a hand-painted oil on canvas or as an archival print, available in a range of sizes to suit an intimate corner or a larger wall.
