Description
A dancing couple is sketched in warm sepia ink, the man seen from behind in a jacket and trousers, one arm raised to hold his hat above his head, the other wrapped around his partner’s waist. The woman looks up at him, smiling, in a fitted polka-dot bodice and a full, ruffled skirt, her hair gathered up with a small flower. Loose washes of blue watercolor mark the shadows on the ground and pick out the folds of her dress.
Built from quick, confident pen lines with only touches of color, the sheet has the immediacy of a working drawing, Renoir setting down the pose and movement of the two dancers before working the idea into paint.
This study is offered as a hand-painted oil reproduction or as an archival canvas print, made to order in sizes that keep the proportions of the original 45 x 27 cm sheet.
